Early Detection is Key: Protecting Against Cervical Cancer and CIN
Cervical cancer is one of the top 10 cancers affecting women in Singapore, but early detection can make all the difference. One of the earliest warning signs is Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN)—abnormal cell changes on the cervix that, if left untreated, can develop into cervical cancer.
A Pap Smear (ThinPrep) is a simple and effective test designed to detect these abnormal cells early, allowing for timely intervention.
What Causes CIN?
CIN occurs when abnormal cells grow on the cervix, usually due to high-risk strains of human papillomavirus (HPV)—a common sexually transmitted infection. Most sexually active people will be exposed to HPV at some point, and while the body often clears it naturally, persistent infections can increase the risk of CIN and cervical cancer.
The Power of Early Detection
The good news is that cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers. Routine PAP smears and HPV tests can detect CIN early—often before symptoms appear—allowing for treatment before it progresses.
The earlier CIN is detected, the easier it is to manage. Staying on top of regular screenings is the best way to protect your cervical health and prevent cervical cancer before it develops.
What do I expect during the Cervical Cancer Screening?
This check will be conducted with complete privacy. You'll need to undress from the waist down. Our female doctor will gently collect a small sample of cells from your cervix using a soft brush. The entire process will be quick and easy, taking just a few minutes.
No special preparation required.
Please schedule your appointment when you are not on your period for the most accurate results.
